The Republican Party now controls the White House, both houses of Congress and the Supreme Court, no matter how that came to be. I believe it is worth bearing in mind that a majority of U.S. citizens did not support the Republican winners.   read more

    A career member of the Senior Foreign Service, La Lime lived in Angola as a child because her father worked for Texaco. La Lime has been detailed to the Defense Department since 2011, serving as director of Outreach for the United States Africa Command. She served as ambassador to Mozambique from April 2003 to December 2006 and in South Africa from 2006 to 2011.   read more

White House sSpokeswoman Tara McGuinness dismissed the findings of the study, claiming its timeframe (18 months) was too short to show that ER use will decline in time.     Professor Steven Sherwood at the University of New South Wales said the research reveals how climate change is impacting clouds, and consequently, increasing the likelihood of higher air temperatures in the coming decades. The warming of the planet results in fewer clouds, which in turn allows for less sunlight to be reflected by clouds back out toward space, causing temperatures to rise even more.   read more

Schultz, a longtime diplomat who most recently served as deputy chief of mission at the U.S. Embassy in Kyiv, Ukraine, from 2010 to 2013. From 2004 to 2007, Schultz was deputy chief of mission at the embassy in Harare, Zimbabwe, and served as minister counselor for Economic Affairs at the embassy in Moscow, Russia, from 2007 to 2009.   read more

    Korman threw out the case on two grounds: that seizures of personal electronic devices don’t occur often enough to be a concern; and that the government doesn’t need to have reasonable suspicion when it comes to taking away possessions at border checkpoints. It is important to note that the government’s policy on border seizures covers an area within 100 miles of the actual border. In his ruling, Korman seemed to trivialize the loss of computers and phones while entering the country.   read more

    The sailors became exposed to radiation leaking from the crippled power plant when their ships arrived off Japan’s coast to provide humanitarian assistance. They remained in the area for four days. The American men and women say they are suffering from radiation exposure and numerous health problems brought on by the exposure. These include leukemia, testicular cancer, gynecological bleeding and thyroid diseases.   read more
