General in Charge of Troop Support Contracts Relieved of Command
Wednesday, December 15, 2010
Scott D. Chambers
Air Force Brigadier General Scott D. Chambers has been reassigned from his role as the senior military officer in charge of purchasing food, clothing and other supplies for troops in Iraq and Afghanistan.
The top official in the Defense Logistics Agency, where Chambers had been commander of troop support since October 6, 2009, did not specify the reason for the change. The DLA director, Vice Admiral Alan Thompson, said Chambers was relieved of his command “based upon substantiated allegations contained in a Department of Defense Inspector General’s investigative report.”
Chambers’ removal follows news of the Agility controversy, in which a defense contractor by that name was given an extension on its logistics work even though it is facing federal indictments for fraud and was supposedly banned from receiving new business from the Pentagon.
