U.S. Representative Jared Polis has become the first gay member of congress to become a parent. Polis, a Democrat from Colorado, and his partner, Marlon Reis, announced the birth of their son, Caspian Julius, on October 1. It was not reported if the child was adopted or born from a donor. An entrepreneur who has built and sold multiple Internet companies, Polis is estimated to be the sixth richest lawmaker on Capitol Hill, with an estimated worth of about $66 million.

 

Polis, now serving his second term in the House of Representatives, is one of four openly gay members of congress, the others being Barney Frank (D-Massachusetts), Tammy Baldwin (D-Wisconsin) and David Cicilline (D-Rhode Island).
