The first democratically-elected leader of the Indian Ocean nation of the Maldives, Mohamed Nasheed, announced the creation of a fund to move the entire population of his country because of the threat that the island nation will be inundated due to the rise of sea levels caused by global warming. The Maldives is the lowest nation in the world. Its highest land is little more than two meters above sea level.
