Winning Hearts and XXX in Afghanistan
Friday, December 26, 2008
Numerous retired CIA operatives have confirmed (on the condition of anonymity) that they used some creative alternative methods to win over Afghanistan’s tribal leaders. Agents have found Viagra to be a effective tool in remote areas, particularly among older Afghan men who are often married to as many as four younger women. “Whatever it takes to make friends and influence people–whether it’s building a school or handing out Viagra,” noted one veteran operative. Another operative recalled one case in which a 60-year-old clan leader was given four blue pills. Four days later, when the Americans returned, the clan leader appeared, beaming, and said, “You are a great man.”
