The United States was represented in Palau by a Charge d’Affaires, Mark Bezner. Bezner holds a Master’s degree in International Studies from Johns Hopkins University. He has since spent more than 20 years with the State Department, serving in the Sudan, Japan (twice), Washington, D.C., Turkey, Laos, and China. From 1990-1991 he served as the Desk Officer for the Office of Freely Associated States Affairs, specifically as the country officer for the Federated States of Micronesia. During that assignment, he spent time traveling through Micronesia, visiting the Marshalls, the FSM, and Palau. He speaks Spanish, Japanese, Chinese, and Turkish.
