A member of the Senior Foreign Service, Michele Thoren Bond has served as ambassador to the small southern African nation of Lesotho since September 14, 2010.
A graduate of Wellesley College, Bond has a master’s degree in foreign service from Georgetown University (1977) and another from the National War College.
She served as consul general in Amsterdam,
Netherlands, and then, from 2007-2010, as the deputy assistant secretary for Overseas Citizens Services in the
Bureau of Consular Affairs , with responsibilities that included international adoptions and child abductions.
She speaks Spanish, French, Serbian and Swedish.
Bond and her husband, Clifford G. Bond (who served as Ambassador to Bosnia-Herzegovina, 2001-2004), have two sons and two daughters. One of their sons, Robert, is also a Foreign Service officer.
