On July 9, 2009, Don Pramudwinai was appointed the Thai Ambassador to the United States.
Pramudwinai has a B.A. in Political Science and an M.A. in International Relations from the
University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA). He also obtained an M.A. in International Relations from the
Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy at Tufts University. He began working in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in 1974, and served in Bonn (1981-1985) and London (1988-1991). He was the first ever Director-General for East Asian Affairs (1992-1994) and received his first ambassadorship—to Switzerland—in1994. From 1999-2001 Pramudwinai served as the Director-General for Information and as the Ministry Spokesman.
He has also served as the Thai ambassador to China, North Korea and Mongolia (2001-2004), Belgium, Luxembourg and the European Union (2004-2007), and the United Nations (2007-2009).
He is married and has one son.
