Name: Wood, William
Current Position: Previous Ambassador
After graduating high school in New York City, William B. Wood earned his B.A. in Philosophy from Bucknell University in 1973 and his M.B.A. from George Washington University in 1975. A foreign service officer for more than 30 years, Wood served in Latin America and Europe, including Uruguay, Argentina, El Salvador, Columbia and Italy. In Washington, he has been on the policy planning staff for Latin America, a special assistant in the Bureau of Political-Military Affairs and an expert in Latin American affairs on the staff of the Under Secretary for Political Affairs. He was Political Counselor at the U.S. Mission to the United Nations, where he was the chief U.S. negotiator in the Security Council, and thereafter served as the Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary of State and Acting Assistant Secretary of State in the Bureau of International Organization Affairs (1998 to 2002). From 2003 to 2007, Wood was Ambassador to Colombia. He presented his credentials as Ambassador to Afghanistan on April 16, 2007.
