Website Posts Hacked Financial Info from Celebs, Politicians—and the L.A. Police Chief

Tuesday, March 12, 2013

An A-list of celebrities and politicians—and Los Angeles Police Chief Charlie Beck—have had what looks like their hacked personal ID information and, in some cases, financial records posted on an Internet website.

Beck was arguably the least famous. The list, which was growing by the hour on Monday, includes Vice President Joe Biden, Michelle Obama, Hillary Clinton, U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder, FBI Chief Robert Mueller, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Sarah Palin, Mel Gibson, Ashton Kutcher, Jay-Z, Beyonce, Britney Spears, Hulk Hogan, Donald Trump, Paris Hilton and Kim Kardashian, according to various sources.

The website has an Internet suffix originally assigned to the Soviet Union, but the address is not being widely circulated in the press. TMZ, which broke the story, said the website has a Twitter profile linked to it. An introductory “Hello world” tweet was in Russian.

According to Associated Press, the Chief Beck website page included the message, “You Cant Corner The Dorner,” a reference to Christopher Dorner, who died in a standoff with authorities after killing four people and terrorizing Southern California for days. The page also included an image of a woman protesting police corruption, a complaint Dorner made in his online manifesto.
