FBI Closes New Orleans Bridge in Continuing Investigation of Katrina-Related Shootings
Tuesday, September 29, 2009
Ronald Madison, shot to death on the Danziger Bridge
FBI agents combed the Danziger Bridge in New Orleans on Saturday looking for evidence related to the shooting of six individuals by local police only days following Hurricane Katrina. Two people were killed and another four wounded during the incident on the bridge, which began with police coming under fire, according to local law enforcement. But the survivors claim they were unarmed and ambushed by New Orleans police officers.
The Danziger Bridge shooting has been the subject of a federal grand jury investigation since the spring, which also is looking into the alleged killing of Henry Glover by police. A state grand jury in 2006 indicted seven police officers on murder and attempted murder charges stemming from the Danziger incident. But those charges were dismissed by a local judge who ruled the prosecution had tainted the case.
