Five states currently allow homosexuals to marry, a right that’s been slow to spread because of complaints that such unions would pervert the institution of marriage. Meanwhile, more than 50% of the nation’s states do permit first cousins to marry.
States with laws legalizing same-sex weddings are Iowa, Vermont, New Hampshire, Massachusetts and Connecticut, according to the pro-gay rights website, The New Civil Rights Movement.
The 26 states that allow first-cousin marriages range from Alaska to South Carolina, California to Wisconsin, and Alabama to Vermont.
