Multiple class-action lawsuits have been filed by American soldiers against Halliburton and its subsidiary, KBR Inc., over its open-pit burning of garbage in Iraq and Afghanistan. KBR is accused of releasing harmful toxins into the air from fires that consumed everything from petroleum products to amputated limbs, causing military personnel to contract respiratory problems, lymphoma, leukemia and other ailments. One lawsuit claims the burning caused at least one wrongful death.
