23 Women Sue GoDaddy over “Revenge Porn” Site
Nearly two dozen women have sued website hosting giant GoDaddy over a “revenge porn” site that publishes intimate photos without authorization.
The focus of the lawsuit is Texxxan.com, which features images of women, without their consent, who live in Texas. In many instances, the intimate photos were provided by ex-boyfriends seeking to punish former lovers.
Hollie Toups, one of the 23 plaintiffs, said she contacted Texxxan.com after she found out her photos were on the website. But when she requested that they take down the images, a website representative said she would first have to provide a credit card number. The owners of Texxxan.com deny having done so.
“Texxxan.com isn’t the only website allegedly engaging in this sort of blackmail enterprise,” according to Jessica Roy at Beta Beat.
The class action lawsuit seeks to prosecute the owners of Texxxan.com and GoDaddy for invasion of privacy and mental anguish.
