23 Women Sue GoDaddy over “Revenge Porn” Site

Sunday, January 27, 2013

Nearly two dozen women have sued website hosting giant GoDaddy over a “revenge porn” site that publishes intimate photos without authorization.

The focus of the lawsuit is Texxxan.com, which features images of women, without their consent, who live in Texas. In many instances, the intimate photos were provided by ex-boyfriends seeking to punish former lovers.

Hollie Toups, one of the 23 plaintiffs, said she contacted Texxxan.com after she found out her photos were on the website. But when she requested that they take down the images, a website representative said she would first have to provide a credit card number. The owners of Texxxan.com deny having done so.

“Texxxan.com isn’t the only website allegedly engaging in this sort of blackmail enterprise,” according to Jessica Roy at Beta Beat.

The class action lawsuit seeks to prosecute the owners of Texxxan.com and GoDaddy for invasion of privacy and mental anguish.

I always check out this website before buying domain names - www.change-domain.com - My personal favourite is godaddy because they're the simplest and usually the cheapest for new domain registrations.

You do realize, Alexia, that some of the photos were taken without the girls knowledge??? What if it were your daughter?

I think that these women should take what they got as a lesson. I am sick and tired of women and girls acting as if every little thing they do does not have a consequence. YOU took the pictures. Whether or not you thought they'd get out, you took that risk. If someone posts them, then they post them. I don't see any of the guys coming forth and complaining. Why? Because they know they did wrong, and can't answer for it. Sorry, I'm a lady, and you ladies get no sympathy from me. I hope you learn something, and ladies of the internet learn a little more humility about themselves. Those pictures will NEVER go away, no matter what site you shut down. Once it's on the internet for more than a second, it's on for good.

Why would Go Daddy be sued? They had nothing to do with the website. Courts have ruled time and again that web hosts are not liable for the activities of their clients. This is what is wrong with the American justice system. First off, the woman posed for the pictures. She should not have done that if she did not want people to see them.
