Des Moines Schools Inflate Crime Stats to Win Grant for Security Cameras

Police counted fewer than 200 fights and assaults at Des Moines' five high schools in the 2005-06 school year, compared with the 415 that Des Moines school officials reported on an application for a $250,000 grant that helped pay for security cameras, outdoor lights and motion detectors.
