General Motors is being sued after it selectively recalled its 2007-2008 models of the Chevrolet Impala sold to police departments.
At issue is the Impala’s rear wheel structure, which allegedly causes misalignment and premature tire wear. The problem prompted GM to issue a recall bulletin for Impalas operated by police.
But the company went no further, according to Donna Trusky, lead plaintiff in a federal class-action civil suit against GM. The lawsuit does not put a figure on how many people are parties to the suit, but says that approximately 423,000 Impalas were sold in those model years.
Trusky says the automaker won’t honor warranties for fixing the faulty parts, which have caused tires to wear out after only 6,000 miles of travel.
