Latinos Underrepresented in Federal Jobs
Friday, October 09, 2009

Latinos make up more than 13% of the workforce in the United States, but only 8% of all federal civil servants, and only 3.6% of senior leadership. This makes the fastest-growing minority group in the country also the most underrepresented in the U.S. government. Hiring increases of Latinos have been modest of late, with most new employees receiving low or mid-level jobs in the government’s largest agencies. If the government wanted to erase the existing disparity, it would have to hire more than 100,000 Latinos, at a cost of about $5.5 billion.
