In one of his first acts as President of the United States, Barack Obama asked military prosecutors at the naval base at Guantánamo Bay to delay for 120 days all legal proceedings against Guantánamo prisoners in order to give his administration time to review the process. The motions were filed in the cases of five defendants who are accused of organizing the 9/11 terrorists attacks and in the case of Canadian Omar Khadr, who was 15 years old at the time that he was accused of killing an American soldier during a raid in Afghanistan in July 2002.  Military and civilian defense lawyers representing the detainees were pleased with the development, but cautious about the direction the new administration will ultimately take.
