Ambassador of Swaziland to the United States: Who Is Njabuliso Gwebu?
On October 16, 2016, King Mswati III appointed Njabuliso Gwebu as the new ambassador of Swaziland to the U.S. Gwebu, who succeeded Abednego Ntshangase as ambassador, presented her credentials to President Donald Trump on April 24, 2017. Born November 19, 1958, Njabuliso Busisiwe Sikhulile Gwebu is a sister-in-law of King Mswati, as she is a sister of Queen Inkhosikati LaNgangaza (born Carol Dlamini), who is the King’s fourth wife. She began working at the Swaziland Monetary Authority (the Central Bank of Swaziland) in 1975. From 1980 until 1997, she worked in the field of education, first as a teacher and then as a department head. From 1998 until 2001, she was a member of the city council of Manzini, Swaziland’s most populous city.
She was first secretary at Swaziland’s embassy in Malaysia from 2002 until 2005. She served as her country’s ambassador to Taiwan from February 2005 to early 2014.
She then served as ambassador and permanent delegate to the U.N. Offices in Geneva, Switzerland, from March 2014, to 2016, when she was picked for the U.S. post.
In addition to the U.S., Gwebu is also the accredited, non-resident ambassador to the following Western Hemisphere countries: Argentina, Brazil, Canada, Chile, and Venezuela.
She is married to Dumisani Gwebu, who also has served as a city council member in Manzini.
