Deadliest Month Yet for Allied Troops in 9-Year Afghan War
Friday, June 25, 2010

This week was one of the toughest yet for the eight-year war in Afghanistan. On the same day the White House announced the removal of General Stanley McChrystal as the top American commander, news filtered out that June was already the worst month to date for allied fatalities.
Eighty NATO troops have died in Afghanistan so far this month, including 47 Americans. The previous monthly record for Allied deaths, 76, took place in August 2009. (The worst month for American fatalities was last October, when 59 died).
