Majority of Americans Find Gay and Lesbian Relations Morally Acceptable for First Time
Monday, June 07, 2010

A majority of Americans now say they are okay with homosexual relations, making it the first time this level of acceptance has topped 50%, according to Gallup.
While support for gay and lesbian lifestyles has risen among many groups since 2006, the biggest reason for the growth in acceptance has come from men under 50. Four years ago, only 39% of men surveyed found homosexual couples “morally acceptable.” Today, that number has leaped to 53%.
Even though tolerance has increased the most among liberals, independents, Catholics and Democrats, people who consider themselves conservatives, Protestants and Republicans have also experienced modest boosts in accepting homosexuals. From 2006 to 2010, support among Republicans and conservatives went up five points, and among Protestants it rose six points.
