Air Force Wife in Philippines Uses Webcam to Catch Thieves…in Oklahoma
Being separated by thousands of miles turned out to be a blessing in disguise for Jim and Maribel Chouinard. With Jim, a flight chief stationed at Tinker Air Force Base in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, and his newlywed wife, Maribel, still in the Philippines, the two stay in constant touch through a 24-hour webcam. The streaming video also kept Jim from losing a lot of property last weekend when two teenagers broke into his apartment while he was at the base. Maribel witnessed the burglary after being awakened by the sound of breaking glass coming over the webcam. She called her husband to alert him to what was going on at his apartment, prompting a quick call to 911. Police arrived in time to catch both burglars and recover not only most of Jim’s property, but also that from two other break-ins. One thing that was still missing was an envelope containing Maribel’s new passport photos, which may delay Jim from getting his new wife relocated to the United States.
