Congressman’s Letter to Postmaster General Took 2 Weeks to Arrive
Monday, January 10, 2011

Republican Representative Tom Petri of Wisconsin wanted the U.S. Postal Service (USPS) last month to extend the deadline for public comments on the proposed closing of a mail processing facility in Oshkosh. Petri sent a letter from his Washington, DC, office to Postmaster General Patrick Donahoe, who also works in the nation’s capital, on December 14. When did the letter arrive?
December 30.
The Postal Service did not offer any explanation for why it took a letter two weeks to travel across town. But the USPS is still accepting comments on the plan to consolidate Oshkosh’s operations to Green Bay, which will eliminate 54 jobs and save the postal service $4.6 million annually.
