FBI Releases Bonnie and Clyde Files Online
Friday, May 29, 2009

With the Great Depression having resurfaced in so many accounts during the current economic distress, it comes as no surprise that the FBI would choose now to release documents about the 1930s’ most infamous couple: Bonnie and Clyde. The decision marked the 75th anniversary of the killing of Clyde Barrow and Bonnie Parker by federal agents in rural Louisiana on May 23, 1934. The FBI has posted nearly 1,000 pages of new material on its investigation of the two robbers and their accomplices who crisscrossed parts of the Midwest and South, holding up banks, grocery stores and gas stations.
The files include a three-page “Interesting Case” memorandum that was first written in 1934 and revised almost 50 years later, providing a summary of Bonnie and Clyde’s background, crimes, and the pursuit by law enforcement. A larger set of documents (947 pages) came from the investigative file that the bureau uncovered recemtly in its Dallas field.
