British television is set to make history on January 27 when it airs the first movie filmed entirely by chimpanzees. The film is the product of an 18-month research project by primatologist Betsy Herrelko, who filmed her 11 subjects through “Chimpcam” and gave the primates, who live in the Edinburgh Zoo in Scotland, a specially-made camera for them to use. The chimps were allowed to carry the indestructible camera around with them in an effort to learn how they perceive the world and each other. Television monitors with built-in touch screens also were set up in the enclosure that allowed the apes to choose different videos to watch.
