Ramesh G. Khilnani, a native of India who owned a pizza restaurant in Houston, tried to get out of paying nearly $50,000 in back taxes to the Internal Revenue Service by bribing an agent with pizza and other enticements. All told, Khilnani, 51, offered $2,500, food and a job in his restaurant to the IRS auditor if she would reduce his tax bill from $49,000 to $500. The auditor reported the bribes to her superiors, which led to Khilnani being caught on tape making more offers.
Having pled guilty and been convicted of bribing a public official, Khilnani is now serving a two-year sentence in federal prison. After that he will be deported to India, because Khilnani was living illegally in the U.S.
