UK Immigration Officer Put Wife on No-Fly List
Sunday, February 06, 2011
Sick of his wife, an unidentified immigration officer in the United Kingdom placed the name of his spouse on the government’s no-fly list for suspected terrorists in order to keep her out of the country.
The wife left the UK three years ago to visit her husband’s family in Pakistan, and when she attempted to fly home, authorities informed her she could not board the flight, but did not say why. Little did she know her husband had added her name to the database for potential threats.
The immigration officer promised his wife he’d look into the problem, but did nothing. His scheme was exposed recently after he applied for a promotion, which required going through a security check for a higher clearance. It was then that officials learned that the officer’s wife’s name was on the no-fly list, and when confronted about this fact, he admitted what he had done.
He was then fired. An immigration source told the media: “He may have lost his job but he is bit of a legend in immigration circles….A lot of people may dislike their other halves but to do this takes it to the next level.”
