Pakistani Christian Sentenced to Death for Allegedly Saying Insects Feasted on Muhammad’s Ear
Sunday, November 28, 2010

Aasia Bibi, a 45-year-old Christian mother of five children, has spent a year-and-a-half in a Pakistan jail on charges of insulting the prophet Muhammad and the Quran, and faces the possibility of being executed. An aide to President Asif Ali Zardari has indicated he would pardon her or grant clemency. However no public announcement has been made.
Bibi first got into trouble while serving water to a Muslim who claimed the Christian woman broke the country’s blasphemy law by saying insects had eaten the prophet Muhammad’s ear before he died and that he married his first wife for money. She also allegedly said the Quran was written by human beings, rather than by Allah. Bibi denied the accusations.
The case has drawn worldwide attention, including a plea of leniency from Pope Benedict XVI.
