A New Source of Energy…Inserting Biofuel Cells into Plants
Sunday, February 21, 2010

Researchers in France may have discovered a potential new source of energy from plants. By inserting a specially designed biofuel cell into a cactus, experts at the Centre de Recherche Paul Pascal were able to power the cell from the glucose and oxygen produced by the plant’s natural photosynthesis process. In effect, the discovery could lead to converting solar energy, as absorbed by plants, into electrical energy through the use of biofuel cells. Also, the research could lead to the development of medical implants that run on energy derived from the same oxygen-glucose combo found in humans.
