Federal Government Finally Decides to Buy in Bulk
Thursday, July 08, 2010

What millions of Americans have known for years, the U.S. government just figured out: It pays to buy in bulk.
To cut down on government spending, the Office of Management and Budget announced that federal agencies will now work together when it comes time to purchasing office supplies and furniture. To implement this new cost-savings strategy, the General Services Administration has negotiated new blanket purchase agreements (BPAs) with 12 companies that will provide government offices with special discounts.
Washington officials say the government should save approximately $200 million over the next four years on office supplies.
Some of the businesses awarded BPAs include Office Depot, Capitol Supply (Sunrise, Florida), Metro Office Products (Brentwood, Tennessee), EZ Print Supplies (Granada Hills, California) and Cartridge Savers (Madison, Wisconsin).
