Federal Hiring of Hispanics Drops
Saturday, July 03, 2010
Despite the addition of 100,000 new jobs to the federal workforce by the end of last year, representation of Hispanics in U.S. government jobs did not increase, says the Coalition for Fairness for Hispanics in Government. This development upset the group because of the already existing under-representation of Hispanics in civil service ranks.
Hispanics make up 14.5% of the nation’s labor force, but hold only 8% of federal positions, and only 3.6% of senior government posts. According to a report from the Office of Personnel Management, the percentage of new hires that were Hispanic dropped from 9.2% to 7.3%.
