Jobs Available with Federal Government
Friday, September 04, 2009
Within the next three years, the federal government will be hiring more than 250,000 workers to meet growing demands for skilled workers ranging from health to legal services. A new report by the nonprofit Partnership for Public Service says federal agencies will have hired 273,000 workers by September 2012 for “mission-critical jobs,” representing a 41% jump in hiring compared to the previous three years.
Max Stier, president and CEO of the Partnership for Public Service, said the Obama administration is seeking to fill positions ignored by the previous administration. “There’s pent-up demand,” he said. “A lot of agencies have been flat-lined, or have been reduced for quite a number of years, and this administration is recognizing that this is a problem, and that they need to deal with it.”
According to the report, about 54,000 new hires will be for medical and public health workers, and 52,000 for security and protection jobs. The federal government also is looking to hire 23,596 people for legal positions, not only in the Department of Justice but also the Department of Veterans Affairs and the Treasury Department.
