Our Government at Work: The Popcorn Board
Thursday, January 29, 2009

Among the many overlooked corners of the U.S. government is the Popcorn Board. Created by a 1996 law and supervised by the Agricultural Marketing Service, the board consists of nine popcorn processors who each process at least 4 million pounds of popcorn a year. The board receives $300,000 annually from USDA’s Foreign Agricultural Service. The Popcorn Board’s web site includes a popcorn-related reading list, a popcorn trivia quiz and a dramatic and moving slow-motion video of popcorn popping.
