Taxpayers Foot Legal Bill for CIA Torture Doctors

Bruce Jessen and Jim Mitchell
Doctors Jim Mitchell and Bruce Jessen will enjoy a legal defense paid for by the U.S. government if they stand trial for creating the CIA’s torture program used during the Bush administration.
Mitchell and Jessen not only were paid $1,000 a day for designing the CIA’s secret interrogation program—which involved tactics like waterboarding—but also were promised at least $5 million in legal fees if their work resulted in prosecution.
Waterboarding is considered a form of torture under international law, and the Justice Department is still deciding whether to bring charges against them and others involved in the interrogation of suspected terrorists.
The government is already paying the legal fees for the two psychologists while they are being investigated by the Justice Department.
