Which Members of Congress Receive Most Money from Oil Industry and Environmentalists?
Tuesday, August 31, 2010

OpenSecrets.org, the website of the Center for Responsive Politics, has made it possible to find out which members of Congress are cozy with the oil and gas industry, and which ones rake in the green from the environmental movement.
After combing through campaign finance reports, OpenSecrets.org determined that Senators John McCain (R-Arizona), Kay Bailey Hutchison (R-Texas), John Cornyn (R-Texas), Joe Barton (R-Texas), James Inhofe (R-Oklahoma) and Don Young (R-Alaska) have all received more than one million from the oil and gas industry since 1989, with McCain leading the pack at $2.7 million.
The top recipients from environmental groups are Senators Mark Udall (D-Colorado), Barbara Boxer (D-California) and John Kerry (D-Massachusetts), taking in $537,400, $497,970 and $336,080, respectively.
Strange as it may seem to some, Kerry also gets along well with the oil and gas industry; he has more than $8 million invested in energy and natural resources companies, most of it in trusts his wife, Teresa Heinz Kerry, inherited from her first husband.
