Who Got Federal Small Business Contracts? Don’t Ask, Government Won’t Tell
Friday, August 07, 2009
With previous government investigations revealing the awarding of small business contracts to large corporations, the American Small Business League (ASBL) figured it would be a good idea to check up on who is receiving contracts from federal agencies. But the ASBL was rebuffed by the General Services Administration (GSA), which refused to release the names of firms that have received small business contracts under the categories of “miscellaneous foreign contractors” and “classified domestic contractor.” The ASBL is now planning to file a lawsuit in federal court to force the GSA to turn over this information.
In a 2005 report by the inspector general for the Small Business Administration, the diversion of small business contracts to Fortune 500 companies was described as, “One of the most important challenges facing the Small Business Administration and the entire federal government today.”
