PBS’s NewsHour, regarded by its supporters as a more thorough alternative to network and cable television news, has demonstrated a noticeable pro-war slant in its coverage of Afghanistan, according to a recent analysis by the media watchdog group, Fairness & Accuracy in Reporting (FAIR).
After reviewing two months of NewsHour programming (May-June 2010), FAIR found that 70% of the 60 guests appearing on the show to discuss the war were current or former government and military officials. The group also noted that despite the fact that most polling shows Americans opposed to the conflict, “public television’s primetime news show featured no guest identified as an opponent of the war or expressing antiwar views.”
According to a series of polls conducted on behalf of CNN, a majority of Americans has opposed the war since at least January 2007.
