Cancer Cluster Near Ft. Detrick in Maryland
Monday, August 09, 2010
Fort Detrick in Maryland is responsible for numerous cases of cancer, including three in one family, according to local residents. Base officials have admitted Agent Orange was used there a long time ago, along with industrial solvents, but the cleanup effort has not been completed. Fort Detrick is the site of an infectious disease laboratory that includes collections of Ebola virus, anthrax bacteria and botumlinum toxin, among other substances.
Randy White, founder of the Kristen Renee Foundation, has called for the resignations of two Fort Detrick employees in charge of environmental operations. White lost his 30-year-old daughter to cancer, and has a second daughter diagnosed with cancerous tumors that came about from environmental exposure. His ex-wife also has stage-four renal cell carcinoma (kidney cancer).
White says carcinogens from the base have been found in residential well water.
Gary Abram, a veteran of the Vietnam War, received compensation from the Department of Veterans Affairs for his military service-connected exposure to Agent Orange. Abram never served in-country, but rather was stationed at Fort Detrick.
