China at War with U.S….Cyber War
Reaffirming what has long been suspected, a report prepared for Congress says China is actively probing U.S. computer systems as part of a growing cyber-war campaign. Requested by the U.S.-China Economic and Security Review Commission, the Northrop Grumman investigation found that “China is likely using its maturing computer network exploitation capability to support intelligence collection against the US Government and industry by conducting a longterm, sophisticated, computer network exploitation campaign.” The report describes in detail instances of cyber attacks by Chinese hackers against federal agencies and military contractors, including an attack that exploited a flaw in Adobe Acrobat which has since been fixed. Northrop Grumman analysts were unable to find, however, the “smoking gun” that proves the government in Beijing is behind the cyber attacks.
