Nine years after beginning its investigation, the U.S. Department of Labor won a federal jury ruling against Tyson Foods for cheating 3,000 current and former employees out of wages owed to them. But the fine levied on the one of the nation’s largest poultry producers is only a fraction of what federal labor officials had sought. Instead of the $8 million government attorneys wanted, Tyson will only have to pay $250,000. The company was found guilty of maintaining faulty records and not paying workers for time spent putting on and taking off protective clothing and having meal breaks.
