Pressured by Christian fundamentalists, the home improvement chain Lowe’s has pulled its advertisements from TLC’s All-American Muslim television program.
Lowe’s withdrew its ads after the Florida Family Association launched a campaign against the program that depicts ordinary life for five Muslim families in Dearborn, Michigan. All-American Muslim, featuring a deputy sheriff, a high school football coach, a businesswoman and others, offers a look at the customs, celebrations, misconceptions and conflicts facing these families, according to the cable network.
But to the Florida Family Association, the show is “propaganda” that’s influencing Americans to let their guard down against the “legitimate and present-day concerns about many Muslims who are advancing Islamic fundamentalism and Sharia law.”
“The show profiles only Muslims that appear to be ordinary folks while excluding many Islamic believers whose agenda poses a clear and present danger to liberties and traditional values that the majority of Americans cherish,” wrote the organization on its website.
