Ten Worst Religious Stories of 2008
Monday, December 29, 2008
Rev. Paul Raushenbush, Associate Dean of Religious Life at Princeton University, reviews the ten worst religious stories of 2008. Coming in at number 9 is Sarah Palin’s Witchcraft video (Palin appears at about 5:00), in which visiting Kenyan pastor Thomas Muthee stood over Sarah Palin at the Wasilla Assembly of God, and prayed, “We come against the spirit of witchcraft! We come against the Python Spirits!” Raushenbush places the battle over California’s anti-gay marriage Proposition 8 at number 5: “The Catholic Church, Mormons and Rick Warren join in a theologically unlikely alliance to pass Proposition 8 and revoke the right of Gays and Lesbians to marry. Rick Warren is tapped by Obama to offer the invocation at his inauguration.”
