Poor Economy Helps Military Recruiting

One winner in the economic downturn is the military, which has finally seen a five-year recruiting crisis come to an end. In February, all branches of the military met their recruiting goals, and the Army, which has been under the most stress, met its goal for the fifth straight month, the longest streak since the invasion of Iraq in March 2003. In addition, Douglas Smith, a spokesman for Army Recruiting Command at Fort Knox, Kentucky, predicts that this year, for the first time since the invasion, less than 10% of recruits will be high school dropouts, as better-educated students look to the military for secure employment.
