One Reason Republicans are Losing the Hispanic Vote

As if things weren’t bad enough for the GOP with respect to its poor relations with Latinos, the Republican National Committee demonstrated this week that it can’t even put out a press release in Spanish without appearing insensitive. The statement, from RNC chairman Michael Steele announcing a new video to celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month, was riddled with typos and grammatical errors, according to Andrea Nill of Think Progress’ Wonk Room.
The video itself highlights the work of conservative Latinos, while disregarding activists associated with the left and the Democratic Party, such as Cesar Chávez and Dolores Huerta. It also leaves out the confirmation of Supreme Court Justice Sonia Sotomayor.
The video also fails to mention former U.S. Senator Mel Martinez’s (R-FL) abrupt resignation in 2007 as general chairman of the RNC in protest of his party’s anti-immigration stance.
