Bird Droppings and Frozen Fish Sperm Cut From Stimulus Spending

The Obama administration is determined to spend the economic stimulus package wisely, according to White House officials, who announced on Thursday a list of proposals that have been axed because they weren’t deemed a smart investment. The Department of Defense decided it could do without projects to steam clean bird droppings from a building, repair the roof of a fast food restaurant, renovate swimming pools, and repair basketball and tennis courts. The Department of the Interior eliminated funding to purchase a supplemental freezer for the purpose of preserving fish sperm at the Gavins Point National Fish Hatchery in South Dakota, and to provide water to prohibited facilities such as casinos and golf courses. And the Department of Agriculture stopped projects to use loans for a ski resort, a luxury spa and a gas station, and to refinance a Rite Aid Pharmacy.
