New IRS Form May Help Jon & Kate
Friday, June 26, 2009
For Jon and Kate Gosselin, stars of the reality TV show “Jon & Kate Plus 8,” the news isn’t all bad. They are still getting a divorce, but it just so happens that the Internal Revenue Service has just changed its rules that apply to claiming children as exemptions. In addition to divvying up their possessions, divorcing couples like the Gosselins can now more easily split up their kids when it comes time to filing their taxes, using Form 8332. This is important, says Michael Cohn, editor-in-chief at WebCPA, because even though “eight is enough in the dependents section on this year’s return,” Jon and Kate may have to alter their child exemptions “depending on how they work out the financial and living arrangements.”
