Stupid Criminal of the Month…Bragged of Fugitive Life on Facebook
Thursday, October 15, 2009
Maxi Sopo apparently never learned one of the basic rules of being a criminal on the run: keep a low profile. The 26-year-old from Cameroon decided to brag on Facebook about what a great time he was having in Mexico while hiding out from U.S. authorities. A few years after arriving in the U.S. in 2003, Sopo got involved in bank fraud, and upon learning federal agents were after him, he fled south across the border. Once in Mexico, he befriended a former Justice Department official at a Cancun nightclub, and the official helped U.S. agents locate Sopo and arrest him.
